NEW DELHI: Voting for the Cooch Behar constituency in the Lok Sabha elections will take place on Apri 19, in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Voting in West Bengal is set to take place in all seven phases from April 19 to June 1, aiming to elect 42 members of the Lok Sabha.
The election results will be announced on June 4, 2024. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, the TMC won 22 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, while the BJP gained notable momentum with 18 seats.Congress won two seats.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections for the Cooch Behar (SC) constituency, the candidates are Jagadish Chandra Basunia from AITC, Nisith Pramanik from BJP, Nitish Chandra Roy from AIFB, and Piya Roy Chowdhury from INC.
In the 2019 elections, the Cooch Behar parliamentary constituency boasted a total of 1,814,200 eligible voters. Out of this, 1,524,683 votes were deemed valid. Nisith Pramanik, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party, clinched victory and became the Member of Parliament for this area by garnering a total of 731,594 votes. Adhikary Paresh Chandra, the candidate from the All India Trinamool Congress, secured the second position with a total of 677,363 votes. He fell short by 54,231 votes in the race.
In 2014, the Cooch Behar parliamentary constituency boasted a total of 1,613,403 eligible voters, with 1,332,409 valid votes cast. Renuka Sinha, the candidate from the All India Trinamool Congress, emerged victorious, securing a total of 526,499 votes, thus becoming the MP for this seat. Coming in second was Dipak Kumar Roy from the All India Forward Bloc, garnering a total of 439,392 votes, trailing behind by a margin of 87,107 votes.
The main parties vying for seats in West Bengal include the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and a coalition of Left Front and Indian National Congress.
The model code of conduct came into effect from March 16 and will continue until the completion of the vote counting process on June 4.
