NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is convening a crucial meeting of its Central Election Committee (CEC) today to finalize the selection of party candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Present at the meeting are top BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president JP Nadda, home minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, deputy CMs Brijesh Pathak and Keshav Prasad Maurya, alongside other committee members.
So far, the BJP has released four lists of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, totaling 291 names. The latest list, unveiled recently, features candidates from Tamil Nadu, a state set to vote in the initial phase on April 19.
The Lok Sabha elections, spanning 543 seats, are scheduled to be conducted in seven phases commencing from April 19. With a staggering 97 crore eligible voters, this election is anticipated to be a significant democratic exercise.
Amidst preparations, various political parties have unveiled their preliminary candidate lists for the elections, with the electoral process slated to conclude on June 1. The much-anticipated counting of votes is set for June 4.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is ambitiously eyeing a significant victory, aiming to secure over 400 seats in the Lok Sabha, underscoring the party’s determination and electoral strategy.
