NEW DELHI: Following the violence that erupted in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani during a demolition drive last week, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday announced plans to construct a police station on the cleared land.
Taking to ‘X’, CM Dhami wrote, “Now a police station will be constructed at the place where illegal encroachment was removed in Banbhulpura, Haldwani.”
CM Dhami said that there is no room for ‘miscreants’ in the state.
“This is a clear message from our government to the miscreants and rioters that no one who plays with the peace of Devbhoomi will be spared; there is no room for such miscreants in Uttarakhand,” he added.
Thirty individuals, including 25 apprehended within the past 24 hours, have been arrested in connection to the violent events in Haldwani city, Nainital, which occurred on Thursday.
The clashes resulted in five fatalities and numerous injuries, as stated by the authorities on Sunday.
Police disclosed that numerous locally manufactured weapons and live ammunition were seized from the arrested individuals.
The state administration has formally requested the deployment of four additional units of paramilitary forces from the Centre to bolster security in the district.
The unrest began on Thursday subsequent to an anti-encroachment operation conducted by the administration in Banbhoolpura.
Following incidents of stone pelting, vehicle arson, and a mob besieging the local police station, the administration issued a directive authorizing the use of lethal force.
Earlier on Sunday, Uttarakhand’s Director General of Police, Abhinav Kumar said that the police contingent dispatched to Banbhoolpura to support a legally sanctioned anti-encroachment drive had come under attack by a mob.
“The police acted in the lawful exercise of their right to self-defence in discharging their official duties. We have sufficient audio-visual evidence to support this effect. It will be presented in the ongoing magisterial inquiry and criminal investigation,” the DGP told .
“We intend to act without any bias in full accordance with the law,” he added.
