NEW DELHI: The Indian government has reportedly requested Pakistan to hand over 26/11 Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed so that he can face justice under Indian law.
The Pakistan ministry of foreign affairs has received an official request from the Indian government, urging the initiation of the legal process for the extradition of Hafiz Saeed, according to several local media reports citing diplomatic sources.
Neither the Indian government nor the Pakistan ministry has confirmed any such request.
Saeed has been listed as one of India’s most wanted terrorists and carries a $10 million bounty placed by the US for his alleged involvement in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

India has repeatedly requested the extradition of Saeed to stand trial for his alleged involvement in the Mumbai attacks. However, the absence of an extradition treaty between India and Pakistan adds complexity to this process.
In April 2022, records revealed that a Pakistani court had sentenced Saeed to a 31-year prison term on charges related to terrorism financing.

Nevertheless, his current incarceration status remains uncertain, as conflicting reports suggest he may have regained his freedom following his release from house arrest in 2017. Saeed has experienced multiple instances of arrest and subsequent release over the past decade.
