RAIPUR: Fulfilling the first poll promise, Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai released the outstanding bonus amount of paddy worth Rs 3,716 crore to 12 lakh farmers on the occasion of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birth anniversary observed as ‘good governance day’.
Attending a state-level grand event organized at Bendri in Abhanpur near Raipur, chief minister Sai along with his deputies Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma, disbursed the two-year outstanding paddy bonus amount to farmers, transferred directly into their bank accounts on Monday.
Cheques and certificates were distributed to the beneficiaries at the event followed by a series of cultural programmes.
Paying tributes to the former PM Vajpayee, CM Sai said, “As soon as Atal ji became the Prime Minister, he paved roads to the villages of India and we celebrate his birthday as ‘good governance day’ to honour his contributions. It was only when Atal ji became the Prime Minister that farmers started getting credit cards.”
Sai said that soon after he took oath as Chief Minister, two most important decisions were taken, one was giving 18 lakh houses to the poor and fulfil the guarantee of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, by giving bonus to the farmers as soon as formation of government, on good governance day.
“I am very happy to tell you that we have transferred Rs 3,716 crore to more than 12 lakh farmers in Chhattisgarh. The money has reached all the banks where farmers have accounts,” Sai said.
A farmer Bishesar Ram Sahu, from Tamora village of Balod district told CM about receiving paddy bonus amount of Rs 89,640. He said, “We never thought we would get this pending bonus, but today we are very happy.”
CM asked another farmer Rampal of Mahasamund district if he got his bonus amount and he said Rs 23,280 was credited to his account.
CM affirmed that as per the poll promises, Rs 10,000 annually will be given to poor landless laborers and recruitment of one lakh government posts will be done with transparency. We have promised that we will purchase tendu leaves at the rate of Rs 5500 standard bags for 15 days, he said.
Sai highlighted other promises to be soon fulfilled including Mahtari Vandan Yojana as the government had made a provision in the supplementary budget to give Rs 1000 every month to married women and other health related schemes.
He also distributed cheques and certificates to the beneficiaries of Lakhpati Didi scheme, which is an ambitious plan of PM Modi, announced to benefit 10 crore women associated with self-help groups.
CM attended several programmes organized on the occasion in Raipur and Bilaspur where he garlanding the statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, attended photo exhibition at Nalanda campus.
Observing it as a good governance week, Chhattisgarh will run a cleanliness drive in all urban bodies and gram panchayats followed by competitions on various levels.
