MUZAFFARNAGAR: Terming it a “rarest of rare” case, the special Pocso court in UP’s Farrukhabad sentenced a 21-year-old man to death for kidnapping, raping and killing a four-year-old girl, after a 64-day trial. The court also slapped a penalty of Rs 2.2 lakh on the convict, half of which go to the parents of the victim.
The crime took place at a village in Farrukhabad district on September 12, and the child’s body was found in an orchard on the village outskirts, said additional district government counsel (ADGC) Anuj Katiyar on Friday.

Police picked up two suspects, including a minor, of the same village, within 24 hours of the murder, he added.

ADGC Pradeep Singh said, “After the over two-month trial, the Pocso court, taking note of the magnitude of the crime, pronounced the death penalty on Wednesday. The court stated that the crime was ‘committed without provocation, just to satisfy one’s lust’. It further observed that the convict had no sense of guilt, and that the case comes under the ‘rarest of rare’ category.”
Farrukhabad SP Vikas Kumar said, “A case was registered under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 376-D/B (gangrape on a woman under 12 years of age), among others, after the family lodged a complaint against the two. Police presented key evidence in the court to nail the accused. The case against the minor accused is going on at a juvenile court.”
