NEW DELHI: Uganda made history as they qualified for the 2024 men’s T20 World Cup after defeating Rwanda in the last round of matches in the Africa leg of the qualifiers. Uganda became the second team to qualify alongside Namibia.
Securing an impressive five wins out of six games, Uganda guaranteed a top-two position in the T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier, earning them a coveted spot in the T20 World Cup 2024 to be held in West Indies and USA.
This achievement marks Uganda’s maiden appearance in any ICC World Cup event, showcasing their rising prowess in international cricket.
Uganda defeated Zimbabwe by five wickets on Sunday for their first ever win over a Full Member team in a T20 international, and followed that up by dismissing Rwanda for 65 then reaching the target in 8.1 overs in Windhoek, Namibia.
Namibia also advanced through African qualifying to complete a lineup of teams that also contains Oman, Nepal, Papua New Guinea and Canada. The United States qualified through being a host country.
Uganda have been an associate member of the ICC since 1998 but does not have Test or ODI status.
