Samsung has announced that it has established a “Future Business Planning Division,” which is tasked with exploring new business opportunities. This is a part of the South Korean electronics giant’s annual reshuffle of its top-level executives with an aim to maintain a two-person representative system.
Samsung’s CEO system is divided into two sectors: one for semiconductors and one for consumer devices.The new unit will be led by longtime Samsung executive Jun Young-hyun, who is currently the vice chairman of Samsung SDI Co., a display unit ofSamsung Group.
Samsung promotes two presidents
In the regular reshuffle of top executives, Samsung also promoted two presidents and announced the appointment of three executives. This reshuffle is reportedly seen as an effort to overcome this year’s lower-than-expected performance.
According to the South Korean company, Jun is also expected to make investments or mergers and acquisitions in multiple areas.
“Having played a pivotal role in achieving global excellence in Samsung’s memory semiconductor and battery businesses, Jun has continued to demonstrate leadership as the chair of the board after serving as CEO of Samsung SDI,” Samsung said.
“Based on his accumulated management know-how and future-oriented vision, he is expected to lead the exploration of future growth opportunities that will transition Samsung’s paradigm in 10 years,” the company added.
Samsung AI services
Earlier this month, Samsung showcased updates to software and services, including its new generative artificial intelligence (AI) model, Samsung Gauss. The company is aiming to integrate the AI model into its products to improve consumer experience.
The South Korean electronics giant introduced Samsung Gauss and its three sub-models – Gauss Language, Gauss Code and Gauss Image – at the two-day Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) Korea 2023.
“The innovation that Samsung Electronics pursues always starts with customer experience, and the best customer experience is one that caters to the needs of users. To realise this, Samsung Electronics uses leading technologies that create a new lifestyle, such as AI and data intelligence,” said Kyung-Hoon Jeon, chief technology officer (CTO) of Samsung Electronics’ DX Division and Head of Samsung Research.
