Apple has created quite a storm in the AR/VR space with its Vision Pro announcement. Banking on this, several other brands have already jumped into the space and it appears Samsung may soon come up with its own version of XR smart glasses.
Phonearena has reported that Samsung has filed a new trademark for “Samsung Glasses” in the UK at the Intellectual Property Office.
What to expect from Samsung Glasses
Samsung Glasses is expected to be based on XR technology and the trademark description mentions “Virtual reality headsets; Augmented reality headsets; Headphones; Smartphones; Smart glasses’.
Simply put, the trademark listing does not actually clarify the actual product Samsung may be working on. After all, it is a wide spectrum and the actual product can be anything or there could be multiple products as per the description.
What we know so far
Based on the trademark, there’s not much that can be speculated. However, Samsung, back in February, announced that they are working on an XR headset in collaboration with Google which is supposed to handle the system software and Qualcomm’s chip. Now, this trademark may be a part of that.
That said, it is rumoured that Samsung’s XR headset may be priced at $2000 which might not be as expensive as the Vision Pro, but if the pricing is correct, then it is certainly on the expensive side.
When Samsung will launch this headset
Now, this is just a trademark and we actually have no clue when Samsung is expected to make this official. However, reports have suggested that Samsung may launch the Samsung Glasses second half of 2023.
Where it will fit in Samsung’s ecosystem
Samsung already has a pretty solid ecosystem. From smartphones to tablets and even home appliances, everything comes together in one way or another. The inclusion of the XR headset will make things even better with more information at the user’s disposal if Samsung manages to pull the party trick well.
