NEW DELHI: The process of nominating candidates for the Lok Sabha elections commenced for 102 parliamentary constituencies in 21 states and Union territories on Wednesday. The first phase of polling is scheduled for April 19, with nominations being accepted until March 27 as per the Election Commission‘s notification.
In Bihar, due to a festival, the deadline for nominations is extended to March 28 for the seats going to polls in the initial phase.The first phase of voting in Bihar will include four of the state’s 40 seats.
Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on March 28, except for Bihar, where it is scheduled for March 30.
The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is March 20, whereas in Bihar it is April 2.
The Lok Sabha elections will span over multiple phases starting from April 19, with counting of votes set for June 4. The first phase of polling includes states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry.
