WhatsApp offers a security feature called two-step verification, which allows users to set a security PIN to their account. This security PIN is over and above the SMS verification done during registration of the account. It is important as this PIN ensures that hackers do not hijack your WhatsApp account. Almost 50% WhatsApp-related scams happen when users lose access to their WhatsApp account. Setting a PIN helps ensure that the account does not end up in the hands of criminals. Here’s how to user can set WhatsApp PIN for their accounts:
Open WhatsApp and go to Settings.
Tap on Account and then Two-step verification.
Select Enable.
Create a six-digit PIN of your choice and confirm it by entering it again.
Another option is that WhatsApp users can add an email address for recovery purposes in case they forget their PIN. Please know that this PIN is not compulsory. Users can Tap Skip if they don’t want to add an email.
Tap ‘Next’ to finish enabling two-step verification.
Now, whenever you register your WhatsApp number on a new device, you will be required to enter this six-digit PIN in addition to the SMS verification code.
