Microsoft’s popular image editing app Paint could soon be getting a major upgrade that adds AI-powered art generation capabilities. According to a recent leak by credible Windows leaker PhantomOfEarth on X, Microsoft is working on integrating a feature similar to Midjourney into Paint.
Midjourney is one of the most popular AI art generator tools that creates images from text descriptions.Users can generate art in different styles like pixel art, paint, or photorealistic images simply by typing a descriptive prompt. For example, typing “a tiny adorable ginger kitten in studio light” generates a corresponding image.
The new AI feature coming to Paint is rumored to be called “Live Canvas”. While details are unclear, the name suggests it could work similarly to Leonardo.Ai’s Real-Time Canvas that allows users to draw a rough sketch in one window which is then translated into art by AI in another window.
This new addition would essentially turn Microsoft Paint into a more interactive image editing tool. Users would be able to leverage AI to not just edit images but also create new artwork through visual prompts and text descriptions.
Microsoft already offers Paint users basic AI image generation capabilities through Paint Cocreator which is based on OpenAI’s DALL-E. The new Live Canvas feature would take it a step further with real-time AI art creation.
If the rumors are true, Microsoft could unveil Live Canvas at its Build developers conference in May. The new feature would help Paint stay relevant as a creativity tool amidst competition from more advanced image editing apps. It reflects Microsoft’s broader push into integrating AI across its products and services.
