Vivek Oberoi who made his debut with Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Company’ still gets the maximum amount of love for his romantic film ‘Saathiya‘ alongside Rani Mukerji. Right from the film’s music to Vivek-Rani’s chemistry, all of it is loved till today. But did you know that the actor shot for the film in some really bad situations?
Vivek recently revealed during an interview that since the film had budget issues, they would be changing clothes in restaurant restrooms and were sleeping on benches. Vivek said during a chat with Humans of Bombay that he was warned against doing the film since he had done action movies earlier. He said, “Everybody said don’t so Saathiya. ‘You are an action hero. How can you do a love story?’ But that wasn’t the film. My mentor, Ram Gopal Varma, was furious. He said ‘No, don’t do this film.’ I was like better than taking permission, I will ask for forgiveness. I loved the film. Saathiya’s director Shaad Ali is my school friend. He was initially making the film with Abhishek Bachchan but that didn’t work out. I already had my debut film, Company.”
But when the shoot of ‘Saathiya’ was happening, ‘Company’ had not yet released. “I was shooting on railway stations, I used to be sleeping on the benches because we had no budget. I used to change clothes in restaurant toilets because I didn’t have a makeup van. We had to shoot four scenes in a day. We were shooting for 18-20 hours a day. There was a time when I was carrying equipment, I had gone back to my assistant days after my debut,” he said.
However, things suddenly changed for Vivek the moment ‘Company’ released. He recalled the time when some people visited him on ‘Saathiya’ sets and called him ‘Chandu Bhai’. This sudden crowd on the location and attention made the actor leave the shoot in a police van.
