Siddharth Anand’s “Fighter,” featuring Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, and Anil Kapoor, is winding down its theatrical run with mixed results. Despite the anticipation following Anand’s previous hit “Pathaan” with Shah Rukh Khan, “Fighter” struggled to live up to expectations, possibly due to its high production costs. The film, marking Hrithik and Anand’s reunion after “War” in 2019, faced challenges in engaging audiences with its storyline centered around fighter jet pilots, reminiscent of “Top Gun: Maverick.” Despite its strengths like a captivating soundtrack and the fresh pairing of Hrithik and Deepika, along with impressive aerial sequences, “Fighter” failed to strike a chord with viewers, resulting in a lackluster box office performance.
Despite releasing around the Republic Day weekend, the film collected about Rs 146.5 crore in its first week, and dropped by nearly Rs 100 crores in week 2 to collect just Rs 41 crore and in Week 3 it further dropped by 65% to collect Rs 14 crore. In the fourth week, it dropped by another 50% to collect Rs 7.25 crore. As the film entered its 5th weekend, the film earned Rs 80 lakhs on Friday and Rs 70 lakhs on Saturday and added another Rs 75 lakhs on Sunday, thus taking its 32 day total to Rs 211.15 crore, it is only third film of Hrithik in the coveted Rs 200 crore club. All eyes will now move to Hrithik Roshan ‘s War 2 where he will step into the shoes of Kabir once again, taking on Jr. NTR , with Kiara Advani also added to the mix. This one will be directed by Ayan Mukerji- his first film outside of Karan Johar’s production house. Siddharth Anand will now be moving on to the fabled Pathaan Vs Tiger, which will bring back SRK and Salman in their respective Spy roles.
Decoding the dry run of the film, Trade Analyst Girish Wankhede said , “Fighter created a space of very snobbish and elite film and that was something that didn’t go very well with the interior of the country. The Tier 2 and Tier 3 couldn’t understand and compliment the high octane aerial action and somewhere the emotional quotient was missing and that is a big thing for any film to work anywhere.”
