NEW DELHI: Himachal Pradesh found resilience in the unbeaten 95 from veteran all-rounder Rishi Dhawan and a composed 85 by opener Ravi Thakur, propelling their team to 311 for eight at stumps on the second day of their sixth-round Group D Ranji Trophy encounter against Delhi on Saturday.
Having posted 264 on the first day, Delhi now trails by 47 runs with two wickets in hand.Himachal Pradesh aims to extend their lead further, aiming to place pressure on Delhi’s fragile batting lineup, which has surpassed 275 only once this season.
Starting their innings at 24 for 1, Himachal Pradesh faced adversity, slipping to 169 for five at one juncture. However, Dhawan’s assertive innings, scoring at a run-a-ball rate, steadied the ship. His knock featured 16 boundaries and a six, the most notable being a pulled maximum off left-arm pacer Siddhant Sharma over square-leg. Additionally, Himanshu Chauhan was not spared either, conceding half a dozen boundaries.
Siddhant Sharma emerged as Delhi’s top wicket-taker with figures of 4/101 in 26 overs, although opener Thakur managed to find some success against him, striking seven boundaries out of the 14 conceded by Siddhant, along with a maximum.
While Dhawan punished Himanshu Chauhan, the latter proved to be more economical, conceding only 66 runs in 22 overs while claiming two wickets. Medium pacer Akhil Chaudhary also chipped in with two wickets for Himachal Pradesh.
