Samsung has decided to phase out a key feature from its smart TVs, leaving users without a familiar and convenient option. The feature in question is Google Assistant, a voice-activated tool that has become increasingly popular among users, especially because it comes as a default assistant on Android devices.
However, due to a recent policy change by Google, Samsung has announced that Google Assistant will no longer be available on its smart TVs from March 1st, 2024.
Samsung has specified the TV models that will lose access to Google Assistant, including all 2022 Smart TV models, all 2021 Smart TV models, 2020 8K and 4K QLED TVs, 2020 Crystal UHD TVs, and 2020 Lifestyle TVs like Frame, Serif, Terrace, and Sero.
Alternatives are available
With the impending removal of Google Assistant, Samsung is urging users to explore alternative options for voice assistants on their smart TVs. This unexpected change prompts users to reconsider their reliance on the soon-to-be-phased-out feature and adapt to the evolving capabilities of their Samsung devices.
The good thing is that Samsung TVs come pre-installed with multiple voice assistant options including the company’s own Bixby as well as Amazon Alexa. That said, users have the option to switch to one of the two available options and make it their default voice assistant on the TV to get things done.
However, Google Assistant comes with its own benefits. First and foremost, it get linked to users’ Google Account which allows them to access various services, get real-time data and answers based on Google search and also be able to to control smart home devices using voice commands.
