Aamir Khan and his first wife Reena cut a perfect family picture in the midst of celebrations recently, as they were involved in their daughter Ira’s wedding with her fiance Nupur Shikhare. What raised a lot of eyebrows was the presence of Kiran Rao – she and Aamir have been divorced for a few years. And it wasn’t as if she was attending the wedding as a guest, but was equally involved with the preparations and even gave singing performances at the wedding.

During her conversation with The Week, Kiran shared that in the midst of her wedding, Ira gave her an oil painting of a street in her favourite city Berlin.It is the street where Cafe Cinema is located. Adding more, Kiran stated that she wasn’t expecting at all and it was the sweetest gift she could receive and it brought tears to her eyes. She also shared that Ira is a fabulous painter just like her mother Reena.
Reflecting on the close bond she shares with Aamir, his family and Reena Dutta, Kiran said it comes naturally to them to be inclusive, revealing that even her side of family was present at the wedding. Stating that they don’t give any thought to it, she said that Mondays are usually reserved for family dinners with everyone. She also highlighted that most of them live around each other, like her ex-mother-in-law lives upstairs in the same building, Reena lives next door and Aamir’s sister Nuzhat also lives close by and they genuinely like each other as human beings. She also added that she hangs out with Reena and Nuzhat on regular basis and also shared that she and Aamir didn’t have an acrimonious divorce, and have parted ways only as a couple, but are very much still a family.
