COOCH BEHAR: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday claimed that the Border Security Force (BSF) was planning to issue separate identity cards to residents of border areas, and asked people not to accept the same, or else they will “fall into the NRC trap” and get thrown out of the country.
“Tell them (BSF) that you already have ration cards, voter cards and you won’t accept the (ID) cards. I will be with you if you face trouble,” the CM said at a government function in Cooch Behar. Banerjee also took on BSF over incidents of “indiscriminate firing” at villagers. “Lodge a complaint at the local police station whenever there are BSF excesses in the bordering villages. I will ask the DM and the SP to file FIRs based on those complaints,” she told the locals.
