NEW DELHI: In a political development that may reshape Bihar’s governance landscape, chief minister Nitish Kumar has tendered his resignation after a meeting with JD(U) MLAs at his official residence on Sunday. Kumar visited Raj Bhavan today and submitted his resignation letter to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar.
Following this, he plans to stake claim to form a new government, with the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), either on Sunday evening or Monday morning.
The political landscape in Bihar seems poised for change as the Mandapam at Raj Bhavan gets prepared for Nitish Kumar to take oath as the chief minister for the 9th time. The timing of the oath-taking ceremony will depend on the availability of BJP National President J P Nadda or Union home minister Amit Shah, or both.

Nitish Kumar set to dump RJD, may take oath as Bihar chief minister again with BJP’s support

It is reported that the BJP and HAM(S) of former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi will be partners in the new National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Bihar.
With 45 members in the 243-member Bihar Assembly, JD(U)’s alliance with BJP and HAM(S) will take the NDA’s total tally to 127, surpassing the half mark at 122 required to prove a majority in the House. The JD(U) also has the support of independent legislator Sumit Kumar Singh, who is already a cabinet minister in the current Nitish-led government, bringing the NDA tally to 128.
As per the agreement between JD(U) and BJP, Nitish will continue as CM, and the BJP will have two deputy chief ministers, continuing the arrangement from the previous NDA government formed after the 2020 assembly polls.

“Mallikarjun Kharge tried to talk to CM Nitish Kumar but…” Jairam Ramesh on Bihar political turmoil

The political developments have broader implications for the Grand Alliance (GA) and the united opposition against the NDA in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. JD(U) has blamed Congress for the current situation, stating that their irresponsible behavior has shattered the INDIA bloc, which is on the verge of disintegration.
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge expressed concern over the lack of clarity on JD(U)’s intentions and emphasized the need for unity to present a formidable opposition against the NDA in the elections. Amidst the political upheaval, the fate of Bihar’s governance and the alliance dynamics will unfold in the coming days.
