NEW DELHI: Former batsman Javed Miandad has voiced his concerns about the state of cricket governance in Pakistan, criticizing frequent changes and appointments in the national team.
Miandad, who played 124 Tests and served as Pakistan’s captain, expressed his dismay, stating that such instability has a negative impact on the players’ confidence.
“I have not seen cricket governance anywhere in the world like we see in Pakistan, and these state of affairs are really sad,” Miandad said during the launch of the Sindh Premier League.
He pointed out that the continuous changes and appointments in Pakistani cricket are uncommon globally, highlighting the lack of continuity in the cricket structure, which affects player confidence.
Miandad believes that such instability is causing Pakistan to fall behind other cricketing nations.
In recent times, Pakistan cricket has witnessed various appointments, including Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shan Masood being named T20I and Test captains, respectively, following Babar Azam‘s resignation from all formats.
Mohammad Hafeez was also appointed as the director of cricket after the ODI World Cup.
Pakistan’s recent performances, particularly in the Test series against Australia and T20 series against New Zealand, have not been satisfactory, leading to concerns about the direction of the team.
