NEW DELHI: The Ram Lalla idol (5-year-old deity) that was consecrated at the Ayodhya Temple during the Pran Pratishtha ceremony on January 22 will be known as “Balak Ram“.
Arun Dixit, a priest associated with the consecration ceremony, told news agency PTI that the name was chosen because the idol depicts Lord Ram as a 5-year-old boy.
“The idol of Lord Ram, whose consecration was done on January 22, has been named as ‘Balak Ram’.The reason for naming the idol of Lord Ram as ‘Balak Ram’ is that he resembles a child, whose age is five years,” Dixit said.
Dixit further added that it was a highly emotional moment for him when he saw the idol for the first time. “I was thrilled and tears started rolling down my face. I cannot explain the feeling I experienced then,” he said.
The Varanasi-based priest, who has conducted nearly 50-60 consecrations, said, “Of all the consecrations (I have) performed so far, this is the most ‘alaukik (divine)’ and ‘sarvoch’ (supreme) for me.”
Dixit said he had the first glimpse of the idol on January 18.
The 51-inch black stone idol of Ram Lalla was consecrated at a grand ceremony in Ayodhya, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi presiding over the rituals as the main yajman.
It was created by Mysuru-based sculptor Arun Yogiraj, and has been carved out of a three billion-year-old rock.
The ceremony was attended by nearly 8,000 people, including eminent industrialists, celebrities, politicians and sportspersons.
The magnificent idol was adorned with 14 jewellery pieces, including mukut, tilak, emerald & ruby rings, short round necklace, panchlada (five-layered necklace), kamar and baju bandh (waist & arm belt), kangan (bangle), pag kada (ankle band).
Lakhs of people watched the consecration ceremony on television in their homes and neighbourhood temples, becoming part of the historic event.
