NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday lashed out at Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s “intimidation tactics” after the state police stopped his “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra” from entering Guwahati.
Rahul, whose padyatra is currently in Assam, said that the march will only benefit from Sarma’s tactics.
“The yatra will benefit from what Assam CM is doing, it’s getting publicity. The Nyay Yatra has become the main issue in Assam,” the former Congress president said at a press conference.
Rahul said that stopping him from visiting temples, universities and disrupting his ‘padyatra’ are part of intimidation tactics by the Assam CM, adding that the Congress won’t get intimidated.
Earlier today, clashes broke out between Congress workers and the Assam police after the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra was stopped from entering Guwahati.
The party workers broke barricades and raised slogans, prompting police to use force to disperse the protesters.
During the presser, Rahul also targeted the Assam chief minister, saying that he is one of the most corrupt CMs in the country.
Rahul and Himanta have been engaged in a fierce war of words ever since the Congress leader’s Nyay Yatra has entered the state.
On Monday, the Assam chief minister referred to Rahul Gandhi as Ravan and refused to respond to his attacks.
Earlier too, Rahul had called Himanta Biswa Sarma the most corrupt chief minister in the country.
Rahul has also accused the Assam chief minister of taking instructions from Delhi and carrying them out with a salute to please Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
