Amazon has unveiled another AI-powered shopping tool that will help customers save time by allowing them to ask questions about products, and return AI-generated answers. The company has already incorporated the AI summaries feature, which is also available in India, on its shopping app.
AI in product enquiries
The latest development involves the integration of an AI-powered assistant in the “Looking for specific info?” section on product pages within the Amazon app on both iPhones and Android. This feature previously relied on reviews and customer queries, and will now utilise AI to respond to customer questions.
The AI-generated answers will use the reviews written by users and product details to offer a comprehensive overview for shoppers seeking specific information.
“We’re constantly inventing to help make customers’ lives better and easier, and are currently testing a new feature powered by generative AI to improve shopping on Amazon by helping customers get answers to commonly asked product questions,” CNBC quoted Maria Boschetti, an Amazon spokesperson, as saying.
For users, this will save time and effort in scrolling through pages of reviews, and reading through large texts in listings as well as reviews.
What questions can be asked to AI tool
Reportedly, Amazon’s new AI feature cannot carry out a conversation and provides detailed responses to queries related to product features. For instance, customers can inquire about the suitability of a sports shirt for running or the thickness of the material.
It is currently limited to one product, which means it cannot compare multiple items or suggest alternatives. Furthermore, it cannot execute actions like adding products to the shopping cart or tell about the price history of a product. The tool is also said to occasionally provide incorrect information or decline basic queries.
AI-generated summaries
This is not the first piece of AI that has been added to the Amazon app. Last year, Amazon announced that the app will provide AI-based summaries to help users make a decision.
While the AI-powered assistant in the “Looking for specific info?” is currently not available in India, the AI-generated summaries can be seen on some product pages in the country.
