NEW DELHI: Australian captain Pat Cummins and Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma have been bestowed with the prestigious ICC Men’s Player of the Month and ICC Women’s Player of the Month awards for December 2023 respectively.
Pat Cummins, instrumental in Australia’s successful year across formats, secured the ICC Men’s Player of the Month honor for his stellar display in the victorious Test series against Pakistan.
Cummins’ standout moment came during the second Test in Melbourne, where his ten-wicket haul, including a crucial five-for in the second innings, played a decisive role in Australia’s dramatic triumph.
Reflecting on the achievement, Cummins expressed gratitude for the team’s collective effort and looked ahead to upcoming series against West Indies and New Zealand.
“It’s been a great year for the group across all formats, and to cap it off with a strong performance against a challenging Pakistan side was a nice way to finish 2023. Overall, we are very pleased with the summer so far and looking ahead to the West Indies and New Zealand series,” Cummins remarked.
Deepti Sharma, the rising star of Indian women’s cricket, clinched the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for her outstanding all-round contributions against England and Australia.
Her notable performances with both bat and ball played a pivotal role in India’s victories against formidable opponents. Deepti Sharma expressed her gratitude for being chosen for the award and thanked fans worldwide for their support.
“It’s an honour to be voted the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for December. I feel very good about my game at the moment, and I’m glad that reflected in my performances for India last month against strong opponents. I’ll continue to work hard so that I can have more moments like this in the future,” said Deepti Sharma.
Cummins faced tough competition from Taijul Islam of Bangladesh and Glenn Phillips of New Zealand, while Deepti Sharma triumphed over teammate Jemimah Rodrigues and Zimbabwe’s Precious Marange in the Women’s Player of the Month category.
These awards recognize the outstanding contributions of players in international cricket, celebrating their exceptional skills and impact on the game.
