NEW DELHI: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) organized a protest rally on Sunday from Jadavpur to Garia against the BJP-led central government alleged misuse of central agencies and for withholding central funds. TMC leaders, including Kunal Ghosh, the party’s State General Secretary, actively participated in the protest.
Highlighting the two primary reasons behind the demonstration, Kunal Ghosh said, One is that the central funds are blocked.Second, CBI and ED are misused for vindictive politics.”
However, the ministry of rural development stated that the release of funds for West Bengal was halted on March 9, 2022, in accordance with Section 27 of MGNREGA. The decision was made due to the state’s non-compliance with the directives of the central government.
In December, a ten-member delegation led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the alleged delay in releasing MGNREGA funds to the state. After the meeting, chief minister stated, “I urged the PM to release the funds due to the state. He said there will be joint meetings between officials from the Centre and West Bengal on this.”
She further highlighted the lack of funds for various schemes, including the 100-day work scheme, PM Awas Yojana, rural development scheme, Health Mission scheme, and Finance Commission.
The ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal has consistently voiced its opposition to the central government, citing delays in the allocation of funds for crucial initiatives such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and other social security programs in the state.
