NEW DELHI: In a fresh bout of violence, a gunfight erupted between security forces and militants in Manipur’s Moreh, along the India-Myanmar border, on Sunday.
Officials said the clash occurred on Sunday evening when militants from the hills launched an attack on state police forces. In response, the security forces fought back, leading to a prolonged gunfight.

Local media outlets said the militants targeted the barracks of the security forces with nearly two dozen crude bombs.

Combined teams of security forces, including Assam Rifle, BSF and state police commandos retaliated to the attack.

Moreh, a border town located in Tengnoupal district, experienced a similarly fierce gunfight on January 2. During that incident, six security personnel, including a BSF jawan, sustained injuries and were subsequently airlifted to Imphal.
Prior to this, similar armed conflicts have taken place in Moreh since December 30 last year.

Chief minister N Biren Singh recently commented that there was a “high likelihood” of involvement from foreign mercenaries hailing from Myanmar in the attacks in Moreh.Watch 7 security personnel get injured amid cross firing with armed miscreants in Moreh
