VARANASI: District judge Ajay Krishna Vishvesha ruled on Saturday that the disposal of applications to make public the ASI’s report on the scientific study and survey of Gyanvapi mosque will be done on January 24 after the same is submitted before the fast-track court (FTC) of the senior judge (civil division) in original suit No. 610/1991 Swayambhu Lord Vishweshwar vs Anjuman Intezamia Masjid (Gyanvapi mosque management committee).
The ASI has informed the court that it will submit its finding before the FTC on January 19. “Accepting the ASI’s plea, the court on Saturday ruled that it would be judicious to dispose of the applications seeking the opening and disclosure of the ASI report submitted on December 18 after the submission of its copy before the FTC in the original suit, instead of disposing of it immediately. The court fixed January 24 for disposal of such applications,” said Amit Srivastava, standing government counsel.
In light of the July 21, 2023 order of the district judge in suit No. 18/2022, where women plaintiffs have sought worship of Shringar Gauri and other deities in the Gyanvapi mosque compound, the ASI held a scientific study and survey to determine whether the mosque stands atop a Hindu temple structure.
After survey, ASI submitted its report to district judge’s court on December 18 in a sealed envelope. The advocate for the women plaintiffs, Vishnu Jain, sought a copy
However, before the court could dispose of application of the women plaintiffs, the ASI on January 3 urged court to defer opening and disclosure of survey report for four weeks.
