NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party leader and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav, mocked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state over a fight in the municipal council meeting where punches were exchanged between the council members.
The fight unfolded during a board meeting focused on discussing development projects amounting to four crores in the Municipal Council. The meeting, attended by municipal chairman Arvind Sangal and MLA Prasann Chaudhary, quickly escalated into a heated confrontation between two council members.
The dispute emerged during the discussion of development works, leading to slaps, kicks and punches between the two involved councilors. Police, including the station in-charge Samaypal Atri, was present and intervened to stop the altercation.
Ajit Nirwal, councilor from ward number 8, was addressing the development of his ward when Bobby, the councilor from Ward number 2, interjected, intensifying the disagreement. The situation reached a point where the Nagar Palika board meeting had to be adjourned.
Akhilesh Yadav took to Twitter, sharing the viral clip with a caption that sarcastically highlighted the lack of development work, suggesting it as the cause of the physical clashes in the review meeting.

In his tweet, he said, “When no development work has been done, then what else could have happened in the review meeting? That is why physical blows were exchanged amongst the councillors in Shamli. Lesson of BJP rule: Come to the review meeting after arranging your own security.”
