JAIPUR/LUCKNOW: A Delhi police team has salvaged four partially burnt mobile phones allegedly belonging to the accused in the Parliament security breach, which suspected mastermind Lalit Jha tried to destroy near a dhaba in the Trisingiya of Rajasthan’s Kuchaman city while on the run after the December 13 infraction.
The team reached Kuchaman on Saturday night.Sources said Jha burned the mobile phones at two distinct locations near a dhaba, known as Shiv Hotel and Restaurant, in collaboration with Mahesh Kumhawat, a local resident. The first location was in front of the eatery, where the accused had gathered around a bonfire.
Sources said the partially burnt phones underwent additional burning on the opposite side of the highway, away from the dhaba, which is close to the railway station. “Delhi police also found burnt clothes and plastic fragments at the second location,” a source said.
Mahesh, employed in installing lanterns at various sites, has been arrested. His father is a labourer, and his brother is involved in electrical fittings.
Another six-member team from Delhi police reached Lucknow on Sunday and went to Parliament breach co-accused Sagar Sharma’s home in the Alambagh area, reportedly to verify his background, contacts, and identify the man/cobbler who allegedly helped him conceal a canister in his modified shoes. Sources privy to the probe revealed that Sagar’s sports shoes were crucial evidence. Officers had found a cavity created by cutting the inner sole, with an additional rubber sole affixed at the bottom to accommodate the canister and maintain the shoe’s appearance.
Sharma reportedly told the team he bought the shoes from a shop in Alambagh. The team visited the shop and questioned the owner.
