India batter Shubha Satheesh has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing one-off women’s Test against England due to a fractured finger. This injury also casts doubt on her participation in the upcoming Test match against Australia, scheduled to commence next week.
The one-off Test against Australia is set to take place at the Wankhede Stadium from December 21 to 24.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Shubha’s unavailability before the start of third day’s play in the current four-day Test. It’s worth noting that Shubha, who made her debut for India across formats, will not be further involved in the ongoing contest.
“Shubha Satheesh did not bat in the second innings due to a broken finger and will take no further part in the ongoing India-England Test,” the BCCI statement read.
The BCCI did not disclose specifics regarding when or how the player sustained the injury, despite her having participated in warm-ups before the second day’s play on Friday. However, on that day, the 24-year-old refrained from taking the field and was observed seated in the dugout with her fingers securely strapped.
Shubha, who delivered the top score for India in the first innings with 69 runs off 76 balls, is the 12th player from the country to score a fifty on debut in women’s Tests.
She notably forged a substantial partnership of 115 runs for the third wicket alongside fellow debutant Jemimah Rodrigues. This partnership now stands as the second-highest in Tests for India.
India concluded their first innings with a total of 428 runs before dismissing England for 136.
