Kuch Kuch Hota Hai has remained a cherished cinematic gem, and Kajol’s portrayal of Anjali continues to be celebrated as one of the most memorable characters in Bollywood history. But recently, Kajol revealed that she wanted to play the role of Tina, played by Rani Mukerji but Karan Johar turned down her request.
“I fought in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. I fought with Karan Johar, I wanted to play Tina’s role and he was like, ‘No.You are playing Anjali.’ I was like, ‘But I want to play Tina’s role. You don’t know what I will do with Tina.’ Karan told me to shut up. I fought with him tooth and nail for 45 minutes but he refused categorically,” Kajol said at the Actors’ Roundtable withRajeev Masand.
The 1998 film showcased the magic of love, friendship, and destiny, and at the center of it all was Kajol’s unforgettable portrayal of Anjali Sharma. As Anjali, she effortlessly blended humor, charm, and emotional depth, bringing the character to life.

Her on-screen chemistry with Shah Rukh Khan, who played Rahul Khanna, added an extra layer of magic to the film, making it an iconic love story for the ages.

During Kajol and Rani’s appearance on Koffee With Karan 8, Rani talked about how she considers Kajol as didi and it was a bit strange to grow apart when you don’t know the reason why they don’t meet that often.
“Kajol didi used to stay in town and we were in Juhu. Me and Tanisha were much closer and we are still. But Kajol didi was always closer to the boys of the family. So, it was a bit strange,” Rani had said.
