NEW DELHI: Terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir dipped to 41 this year until November 15, from 125 in 2022 and 228 in 2018, the year prior to nullification of Article 370, junior home minister Nityanand Rai told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
Rai, replying to a question, said the government has a “policy of zero tolerance against terrorismand its approach is to dismantle the terror ecosystem”.He informed that “terrorist initiated” incidents reported in Jammu and Kashmir had seen a steady decline in the past six years, totalling 125 last year, 129 in 2021, 126 in 2020, 153 in 2019 and 228 in 2018.
Similarly, 44 encounters were registered this year in J&K against 117 in 2022, 100 in 2021, 118 in 2020, 102 in 2019 and 189 in 2018.
A total of 13 civilians were killed in such incidents during 2023 while the previous figures in this context were 31 (2022), 41 (2021), 38 (2020), 44 (2019) and 55 (2018).
The number of security force personnel martyred in the line of duty in J&K is 20 until November 15 this year, as compared to 32 in 2022, 42 in 2021, 63 in 2020, 80 in 2019 and 91 in 2018, the data said.
