NEW DELHI: Delegates from the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) have embarked on a second inspection of the venues in the Caribbean and the USA in preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled for June 4 to June 30, 2024.
The two-week review, which began on November 30, focuses on assessing the readiness of the venues and will conclude on December 15, as outlined in a CWI release.
Khushiyal Singh, ICC Head of Operations, highlighted the key areas that the inspection team is scrutinising during this period.
“Areas that will be assessed include pitch and outfield preparations, practice facilities, players dressing rooms, broadcast and media facilities, IT and security capabilities, hotels and guest houses… areas for fan parks, and other key components that are fundamental to the successful staging of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” Singh explained.
Once the inspections and assessments are completed, the ICC will compile its findings and communicate them to CWI, along with necessary recommendations.
In the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup, 20 teams will be divided into four groups, and a total of 55 matches will be played. West Indies and the USA are co-hosting the tournament, with the USA hosting an ICC event for the first time.

However, there was a setback as Dominica, one of the designated venues, withdrew from hosting the event. The Windsor Park Sports Stadium, which was initially shortlisted for a group stage match and two Super 8 games, won’t be hosting any matches in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
The Dominica sports ministry explained the decision, stating, “The implementation timelines submitted by various contractors revealed that it would not be possible to complete these works within the stipulated time frame.”
