Government issues an ‘important’ warning for Android devices, here’s what users can do – Times of India

It’s just yesterday when Google warned users about a potential vulnerability found in Android. The company asked users to apply the latest available security patch for their device to stay protected against potential threats.
Now, CERT-In, the government that monitors bugs and vulnerabilities within the apps and services offered by the company, has issued another “high severity” warning for multiple versions of Android, including the latest Android 14.
What has the government said?
The government body has mentioned that there have been several vulnerabilities found within the Android operating system. These can allow attackers to exploit them and gain access to sensitive data, information, execute arbitrary code, gain elevated privileges or cause denial of service conditions on the targeted system.
Affected Android versions
According to the report, the vulnerabilities have been found in Android 11, Android 12, Android 12L, Android 13 and Android 14 operating systems.
Why do these vulnerabilities exists?
These vulnerabilities exist in Android due to flaws in the Framework, System, Google Play system updates, Arm components, Imagination Technologies, MediaTek components, Misc OEM, Unisoc components, Qualcomm components and Qualcomm closedsource components.
Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow the attacker to obtain sensitive information, execute arbitrary code, gain elevated privileges and cause denial of service on the targeted system.
What’s the solution?
The government body has advised users to apply the latest security patch available for their device.
