NEW DELHI: The road transport and highways ministry on Wednesday set up a five-member expert panel to investigate the structural collapse of the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi and submit a preliminary report on the causes in the next 10 days and finalise a report in a month. The committee will also recommend the amendments to standard operation procedures to be followed in case of tunnel collapse and safety measures to be taken-up during construction within 45 days.
The panel approved by Union road transport and highways secretary, Anurag Jain will be headed by R K Dhiman, additional director general of the Border Road Organisation and the members include an officer from Indian Railways and two professors.
As per the terms of reference, the expert team will go through the records pertaining to the project and the rescue operation. It will review the Detailed Project Report and the detailed design reports submitted by the project contractor.
