NEW DELHI: Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar took to social media on Sunday to fondly remember his childhood coach, Ramakant Achrekar, on what would have been his birth anniversary.
Tendulkar expressed gratitude to Achrekar, attributing his cricketing success to the invaluable lessons imparted by his beloved coach. Accompanying the tribute was a nostalgic childhood picture capturing Tendulkar engrossed in batting lessons under Achrekar’s guidance.
“To the man who made me the cricketer I became! The lessons he taught me have stayed with me throughout my life.Remembering you all the more on your birth anniversary. Thank you so much for everything you did for me Achrekar Sir,” tweeted Tendulkar.

Ramakant Achrekar, a revered coach, left an indelible mark on Tendulkar’s cricketing journey. The stalwart coach, who passed away at the age of 87 on January 2, 2019, received acclaim for his significant contribution to the sport.
In 1990, he was honoured with the Dronacharya Award, recognizing his coaching excellence. Additionally, he was bestowed with the Padma Shri Award in 2010, one of India’s highest civilian honours.
Tendulkar, often hailed as the “Little Master,” holds the record for the highest runs in Test cricket, accumulating 15,921 runs in 200 matches at an impressive average of over 53, featuring 51 centuries and 68 half-centuries.
His stellar ODI career boasts 18,426 runs in 463 matches at an average of 44.83, with 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries. Tendulkar’s combined international records make him the highest run-scorer, with 34,357 runs in 664 matches, displaying a remarkable average of 48.52, and standing as the sole player to achieve 100 international centuries.
In addition to his individual achievements, Tendulkar played a pivotal role in India’s 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup triumph, securing his place in the annals of cricketing history.
