Google launched the Pixel 8 series in October which includes two smartphones — the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro models. During the launch, the tech giant announced the Video Boost feature which is set to arrive exclusively for the Pro models. The company initially said it was targeting a December release for the feature that will improve video quality with artificial intelligence. Now, a report claims that as promised, the feature is expected to arrive this month.
According to a report by Android Authority, code references to the Video Boost feature have been discovered in the latest version (v.6.63.0.586138124) of the Photos app. This suggests that Google is on track with its goal and the rollout of this feature is imminent.
Google Pixel 8 Pro: How will it work
The Google Pixel 8 Pro Video Boost feature will be able to perform an on-device improvement. To access this feature, users need to upload the video to the cloud and will need an internet connection to do so, the company explains.
The teardown of the latest version of the Photos app suggests that users will be able to perform a Video Boost on any Pixel 8 Pro video that has been backed up to the Google account through the Photos app. Users who don’t auto-upload all their video files will also be able to choose a specific video on their phone to back up and then apply the boost.
As per the report, users will be able to download boosted video in two formats. The report claims that Google will allow users to choose between AVC (good for compatibility with many systems) or HEVC (less compatibility, but offers better file size/quality ratio).
The report notes that the company may offer users more options for file types when this feature rolls out. However, the codes reveal that these will be two of the options.
More details about the Video Boost feature are expected to come out in December. The feature is expected to arrive with the next Pixel Feature Drop which is expected to land in the first week of the month.
