Google has acknowledged a recent issue with Gmailthat caused delays in sending emails for some users. The company is investigating the cause of the problem and has implemented a fix that is expected to resolve the issue for most users. For over four hours on November 30, several Gmail users were facing issues in sending emails. There was some delay in the emails reaching the receiver.Google has acknowledged that there was an issue. “Some Gmail users experienced a delay in sending emails globally for a duration of 4 hours and 45 minutes. Any emails that were delayed after entering our system were auto retried and should have been delivered within a couple of hours after mitigation,” said Google in a post on its support page.
What caused the delay in sending emails?
According to Google, from preliminary analysis, the root cause of the issue appears to be an overload in Google Message Router (GMR). “Google will complete a full incident report in the following days that will provide a detailed root cause,” noted the company.
Google has fixed the issue and also apologised for the outage. “We apologise for the inconvenience this service disruption/outage may have caused,” said Google. Despite the disruption, most users were able to send their emails successfully within a few hours.
At the time of the brief outage, Google had said that new emails should generally not be seeing any issues. However older emails will be auto retried and should be delivered within the next couple of hours. So you might check for older emails from yesterday if they reached their destination or not.
Earlier this year in September Google Cloud experienced an outage that affected a number of popular services, including Gmail, Google Drive, and YouTube.
