RAIPUT: Fate of 1181 candidates for the two-phased 2023 assembly elections in Chhattisgarh locked in EVMs and postal ballots will see the light of the day on December 3. Election Commission has completed its preparations for the counting of votes for 90 assembly constituencies which will be done on December 3 simultaneously on 14 tables for each assembly constituency under the supervision of observers and a thick layer of security on the site.
The counting of service votes and postal ballots will begin at 8 am and counting of votes on tables will begin simultaneously at 8.30 am.
Chhattisgarh chief electoral officer Reena Baba Saheb Kangale said that Kawardha will witness a maximum number of 30 rounds of counting and minimum 12 rounds in Manendragarh and Bhilai Nagar.
“Preparations in all 33 districts are completed for counting of votes under Chhattisgarh assembly elections, 2023. First of all, the QR code of votes received from ETPBS (Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System) will be scanned followed counting of postal ballots. Counting of votes on EVMs will begin simultaneously on all tables after 8:30 am. Besides 30 rounds of counting in Kawardha, Kasdol assembly constituency will take 29 rounds,” said the chief electoral officer.
Kangale said that during the counting of votes in the counting centers amid tight security, no person will be allowed to enter the counting room without authorization letter.
During the counting of votes, candidates will be able to inspect the counting by going to any table, while the agents of candidates will be allowed to inspect counting only at designated table. After completion of each round, any of the two control units will be checked randomly in presence of the candidates or their agent under the supervision of an observer, the official said.
A note from the state election office stated that after the counting of all the rounds is completed, the votes will be verified by selecting five Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) through draw. The counting process will be done under video recording and except the observer and returning officer, no one will be allowed to take mobile phones inside the counting room.
The EVMs are presently kept under three-layer security cordon in strong rooms in all the district headquarters, after the voting process was completed.
There are a total 1181 candidates who contested elections from BJP, Congress, JCC (J), BSP, AAP and other parties, for whom voting was done in two phases on November 7 and 17 for twenty and seventy seats respectively.
Over 1.55 crore voters participated in exercising their franchise of which more than 78 lakh were women voters outnumbering men.
