JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on the polling day in the state said that he doesn’t care what anyone says, but the Congress will once again form the government in the state.
Speaking to the media, CM Gehlot said “We have got the blessings of the people. Congress government will be formed again. I don’t care who says what.”
This comes after Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Friday hit out at Rajasthan Chief Minister saying that his government has “betrayed every section” of society and people have made up their minds to vote it out in the assembly polls to be held on Saturday.
The BJP leaders further said that Ashok Gehlot held similarly underestimated support for the saffron party in the 2013 assembly polls when the party won 163 seats.
Voting for the 199-member assembly constituency is currently underway in Rajasthan.
Rajasthan recorded 68.24 per cent polling for 199 assembly constituencies till 5 p.m., the Election Commission informed on Saturday.
Vaibhav Gehlot, son of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday cast his vote in the Assembly elections and expressed his confidence in Congress repeating the government in the state.
Vaibhav Gehlot told ANI, “Congress’s 7 guarantees will prove to be a masterstroke. Whatever feedback is being received from Rajasthan is very good. There is a great inclination towards Congress. This time the tradition will change and Congress will repeat Govt. All the predictions made by BJP leaders will fail.”
Earlier, after casting his vote in Sardarpura, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday saying his speeches “lack substance.”
“Gehlot also exuded confidence in Congress’s victory, saying that the Congress government will return to power in the state.
Speaking to reporters after casting his vote at the Sardarpur assembly constituency, Gehlot said, ” There is no substance in Modi ji’s speeches. This is the state assembly election. This is not Modi Ji’s election. We will stay here. We will talk about development.”
The polling began at 7 am and voters can cast their ballots until 6 pm.
Adequate security arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful and fair elections, as per a poll official.
The counting of votes will be taken up on December 3.
In 2018, the Congress won 99 seats, while the BJP won 73. Gehlot assumed the CM position with the support of BSP MLAs and independents.
