Sanjay Leela Bhansali speaks of pain and suffering in his films as he jets off to Los Angeles – Exclusive | Hindi Movie News

After the masterclasses for BAFTA in London, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is off to Los Angeles to promote Gangubai Kathiawadi.

Speaking from London on the eve of his departure to LA Bhansali says, “This (the masterclasses) has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career as a filmmaker. These critics and film students had seen my film so minutely. They saw things that I never knew anyone would notice.”

Which was the one question at the BAFTA masterclass which really floored Bhansali? He reveals, “It was when someone asked me why there is so much suffering in my films when there is so much beauty and harmony in them. I have never been asked this question before. But it raises a very important point about my films and their connection to the pain and suffering from my childhood. The huge spaces my films are shot on, have to do with the fact that I lived in cramped spaces during my childhood.”

Bhansali desisted from watching the film with the audience in London. “I never watch my films with the audience. Even at the premiere I rush out after the audience settles down for the show.”

Now that he is off to LA he takes fond memories ahead. “It’s been a learning experience for me here in London. I just hope Gangubai Kathiawadi continues to grow.”
