Barcelona vs. Osasuna result: Dembele the star, Torres, Aubameyang the finishers as Barcelona dominates in fifth straight win

Barcelona may have struggled in front of the net midweek against Galatasaray in the Europa League, but those attacking difficulties were left behind and did not follow the Catalan giants back to league play.

Seeking a fourth straight La Liga win, Barcelona obliterated Osasuna from the opening whistle to the final kick. The proceedings were elementary as Barcelona had little resistance from the visitors at Camp Nou.

Ousmane Dembele, back in Xavi’s favor despite the contract dispute, pulled the strings throughout, picking up a pair of assists and eviscerating the Osasuna left defensive flank. In front of the net, Ferran Torres picked up a brace inside the opening half-hour, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang added a third before halftime, while Riqui Puig put the cherry on top with Barcelona’s fourth with 15 minutes to go.

Osasuna arrived at the Camp Nou in 11th place in the La Liga table, comfortably away from danger, but they provided little resistance in what was a comprehensive defeat from start to finish.

Full-Time: Barcelona 4-0 Osasuna

Three minutes of added time produce no more eventful moments, and the referee blows the final whistle. The first half was ruthless, and the second half was elementary as Barcelona waltzes to its fifth straight victory.

Ferran Torres grabbed an early brace, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sent Barcelona through, and Riqui Puig put the cherry on top. Ousmane Dembele was the real star of the show though, and there was no stopping the Blaugrana today. Osasuna had little to offer.

88th min: CHANCE, Barcelona! A delicious counter-attack started by Gavi results in a 3-on-1 situation that somehow fails to produce a goal. Gavi is hauled down via a textbook American football tackle as he springs Depay and Puig on the break, who are together through with just one defender. Sadly, Depay’s feed to Puig is poor and the chance disappears.

Once play stops, the referee pulls it back to give a yellow card to Unai Garcia, who might get a call from Bill Belichick after viewing that tape. Real nice form tackle, two hands wrapped around the waist.

84th min: Memphis Depay nearly pulled off what would have been a Puskas contender, looking to flick a scorpion kick on frame, but it just skitters wide left. The goalkeeper not positioned to save if it had been on target, very close.

79th min: Martin Braithwaite comes on to replace Ferran Torres, who falls short of his hat-trick. It’s the first appearance for Braithwaite since late August, now recovered from a serious knee injury. He’s been an unused substitute since late January, finally with a chance for some minutes at the Camp Nou.

Oscar Mingueza is also on for Jordi Alba.

75th min: GOAL! Barcelona! What an impact by the substitute Riqui Puig! A short corner is eventually sent across the top of the 18-yard box for Puig who rips a shot on net. It’s saved by Herreira, but it’s not done so comfortably and the rebound is followed up by Puig who pounces on the loose ball and puts it in the back of the net.

71st minute: Osasuna has its first corner of the entire match, but it’s a very poor delivery that can’t beat the first man. Just not the visitors’ day at the Camp Nou.

Benito is off for Ante Budimir, but it feels like each individual change is far too little, on an island. Memphis Depay and Riqui Puig come on with the game dusted, replacing Pedri and Aubameyang.

70th minute: CHANCE, Barcelona! After setting up a pair, Dembele really wants his goal now. He gets free down the right, through a trio of green shirts all failing to challenge, and he rips one on frame that’s palmed up and away by Herreira, a good save that stings his hands. A comprehensive performance from Dembele today.

69th minute: Barcelona has had a few other chances snuffed out by Osasuna, but the hosts have barely been troubled at the other end.

Pedri slices through the area and shouts for a penalty, but the referee waves it away. Pedri rises with a smile on his face.

62nd min: Pique comes off to a rousing applause, and on comes Clement Lenglet who is returning from injury. Xavi is able to give some minutes to his French defender as he regains fitness, and gives Pique a chance to get a thankful cheer from the Barcelona faithful for years of service.

59th min: Dembele gets past yet another defender down the right flank, very near the end line, and he sends a delicious cutback for Torres that’s just swept away by an Osasuna defender. Whatever changes were made at halftime for the visitors haven’t worked. The Frenchman, however, is on his horse.

55th min: Goal ruled out! Gerard Pique, for whatever reason up in the attack, has the ball in the back of the net in what would be a milestone goal on his 600th appearance, but he’s just leaning offside, unable to time his run perfectly. The flag correctly voids the strike.

51st min: CHANCE, Barcelona! Dembele turns back to his provider role, and his cross meets Aubameyang wide open on the penalty spot. Aubayemang lashes his foot at the delivery for a redirect and rifles it venomously wide.

50th min: CHANCE, Barcelona! Oh my, Ousmane Dembele! The Frenchman utterly eviscerates two defenders on the right — Juan Cruz and Javi Martinez — and it all opens up for him. He has options in the middle, but already up 3-0 and dominating proceedings, he looks to shoot from a tight angle and it’s saved by Herreira. That was gorgeous.

46th min: Second half is under way. Will be interesting to see if Osasuna has any changes tactically to try and trouble Barcelona. A triple change for Jagobata Arrasate who swaps Ruben Garcia for Roberto Torres, while David Garcia comes off for Unai Garcia and Adriane Hernandez  replaces Torro.

Halftime: Barcelona 3-0 Osasuna

This one hasn’t even been a contest so far. Ferran Torres got his brace early and Aubameyang added one as the match has been one-way traffic throughout.

Ousmane Dembele with his two assists has pulled the strings, just what the Frenchman needed to reinvigorate his Barcelona career and pressure the club to offer a contract more to his liking. Barcelona held 72% possession through the first half, and even that feels low. Osasuna somehow has two shots, and they’re hard to remember. The visitors need a rousing halftime team talk to get back into this one.

45th min: The crowd ooh’s and ahh’s as Dembele and Busquets combine on the right with a pair of back-heels to try and spring an attack. It’s all Barcelona here, Osasuna hasn’t even gotten off the bus.

40th min: Barcelona has slowed the pace, bleeding the clock with possession and allowing Osasuna to try and work the ball out of its own half, which it cannot. Alves and Dembele kill time on the right flank before Torres, seeking his hat-trick, rifles a long-range effort well over. Why not?

36th min: Ousmane Dembele has been a controversial figure at Camp Nou, but he’s been heavily involved today. He has 35 touches through 35 minutes, losing possession just eight times and picking up a pair of assists. He has combined fabulously with Dani Alves on the right and has been a consistent figure centrally as well as Barcelona attacks down the middle.

30th min: Another defensive miscue for the visitors sees Barcelona nearly through, as a clearance is blasted right into the chest of Gavi, but Aubameyang was offside as he delivered a shot just wide left. Herrera’s goal has been pummeled in the opening half-hour.

29th min: Osasuna appears to have its first shot of the match, but Nacho Vidal is flagged for offside on the effort, so it is erased.

27th minGOAL! Barcelona! This is a slaughter. With Torres on a brace, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang is now at the party. Dembele picks up a second assist with a fabulous cross to the near post, and Aubameyang is there to meet it with a sliding finish.

23rd minCHANCE, Barcelona! Goodness, Ferran Torres nearly has his hat-trick already! He carves Nacho Vidal to pieces, and a shot blazes just wide thanks to a last-ditch tackle by Garcia.

21st minGOAL! Barcelona! Ferran Torres has a brace! Barcelona has held an incredible 77% possession, and after a quick but unsuccessful counter from Osasuna, Barcelona is right back to work. Again, it’s right down Osasuna’s throat, and a brilliant delivery through the lines by Dembele goes right to Torres behind the defense. A calm, cool finish through the goalkeeper’s legs, and Torres is on a hat-trick. This one feels over early.

18th min: Barcelona continues to slice Osasuna up right through the middle. Another deep delivery up the gut looks to find the outstretched leg of Aubameyang on the doorstep, with Dani Alves on the delivery. Unlike Torres moments earlier, Aubameyang gets a touch, but it’s right into the waiting arms of Herrera.

16th min: Ferran Torres almost gets a quickfire brace, fed in beautifully on a set-piece as Jordi Alba delivered to the back post, but it’s just out of the Spaniard’s reach as he sticks his foot out in desperation.

13th minPENALTY, BARCELONA! Barcelona goes right through the middle as Gavi finds himself between a pair of defenders, and he’s felled hard from behind by David Garcia. There’s a ton of contact and the defending is clumsy, Garcia can have few complaints.

Ferran Torres steps up to take the penalty, and SCORES! Torres goes right, goalkeeper Sergio Herrera goes left, and Barcelona goes in front early, a jolt of energy after being shutout in Europa League play midweek.

9th min: Gerard Pique, on his 600th Barcelona appearance, recollects possession for Barcelona after a weak spell of possession for Osasuna.

He starts a Barcelona move that results in a very good Dembele effort that goes just wide right. He had options in front of goal but his effort was open and came close.

6th min: Barcelona is in control early on, but finally a chance. Dembele breaks through but his first touch on a feed from width is poor and the Osasuna defense can reposition. The ensuing corner is cleared without reaching a Barcelona player. A dominating but non-threatening start from the hosts.

1st min: We’re under way! Barcelona right to the front foot, and it earns a touch for Aubameyang in the box in the first 60 seconds.

3:51 p.m.: The game hasn’t started yet but young midfielder Gavi is already putting on a show!

3:31 p.m.: Barcelona hasn’t had any one player carry the side this season, but without a talisman, the entire squad has chipped in. They’ll need a leader today as the squad pushes for a return to the top four.

2:45 p.m.: Lineups are in. Despite almost certainly leaving this summer, Ousmane Dembele starts on the wing for the second match in a row, with Adama Traore again on the bench to begin proceedings. Expect to see the Spanish powerhouse at some point, as he’s been stellar off the bench since joining. Frenkie de Jong is on the bench with Pedri and Gavi both in midfield, while American full-back is also sat with Dani Alves and Jordi Alba preferred.

For Osasuna, Iker Benito comes into the attack in place of Chimy Avila in a 4-3-3 setup, although that could change to a 4-4-2 depending on how 22-year-old Javi Martinez — in his second consecutive league start — is deployed.

2:33 p.m.: Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is in great form since joining the Spanish side, but his old striker partner at Arsenal is also — interestingly — doing quite well since the Gabon international departed The Emirates…another goal for Lacazette today, this time from the spot. Were they holding each other back?

2:00 p.m.: Good afternoon and welcome to Sporting News’ live coverage of the La Liga fixture between Barcelona and Osasuna. Xavi Hernandez’s team are in good form at the moment – can they continue that with another victory against mid-table opposition?

Xavi may be on the touchline for Barcelona now, but he has some memories facing Osasuna from his days as a player.

Barcelona vs. Osasuna lineups

Xavi has a few selection issues to contend with ahead of this game. Samuel Umtiti is set to miss out, while a muscle problem will see Sergi Roberto ineligible. Ansu Fati is also recovering from a thigh injury, and will also be unavailable.

Alejandra Balde is also out, due to an ankle injury, while Nico won’t be available due to suspension. With this game coming in between two ties of their Europa League campaign, it remains to be seen how much Xavi will rotate during this game.

Barcelona lineup (4-3-3, left to right) Ter Stegen — Alves, Pique, Garcia, Alba — Busqets, Pedri, Gavi — Dembele, Ferran Torres, Aubameyang.

Barcelona bench (11): Neto (GK), Tenas (GK), Lenglet, Dest, Mingueza, Araujo, Riqui Puig, F. De Jong, Depay, Traore, L. De Jong.

Osasuna is expected to head to the Camp Nou with just one absentee, as Jesus Areso misses out with a wrist injury. Aside from that, Jagoba Arrasate should have a full squad to choose from.

Osasuna lineup (4-3-3, left to right): Herrera — Cote, Cruz, D. Garcia, Vidal — J. Martinez, Torro, Moncayola — Benito, Kike, R. Garcia.

Osasuna bench (11): Perez (GK), Unai Garcia, Oier, A. Hernandez, Ramalho, Brasanac, M. Sanchez, R. Torres, Barja, I. Perez, Budimir, Barbero.

Barcelona vs. Osasuna betting odds

Odds courtesy of DraftKings

Osasuna has struggled scoring away from home in the La Liga this season, and that seems unlikely to change with a trip to Barcelona. The last five away matches have seen Osasuna shut out three times, producing an xG total under 1.0 in all three matches.

Barcelona, meanwhile, hasn’t lost in league play since early December, with three wins in a row and seven in their last nine. Over its last three matches, Barcelona has put together xG totals of 2.47, 3.24, and 4.09, a collective 9.80 xG with 10 goals scored.

There will, however, be Barcelona players in the side feeling fatigue, and Xavi may consider resting one or two of his key men. Although Barca have been scoring with regularity at home, Xavi will look to close the game down and bring off tired legs if his team get a couple of goals. Sure enough, Xavi has rested Frenkie de Jong and Memphis, with Adama Traore on the bench to spell anyone needing a breather.

Pick: Barcelona To Win By 2 Goals (+225)

  • Moneyline: Barcelona (-295) / Draw (+425) / Osasuna (+850)

  • Both Teams to Score: Yes (+105) / No (-135)
